Kent in a
nutshell

When I studied biology and education in college I assumed I would end up as a teacher.  A few years later I found myself working as a social worker in the area of foster care.  I always referred to myself as an “accidental social worker”.  Working in the foster care system and in behavioral care settings opened my eyes to the various extreme hardships that some people have to face every day.  Trauma is one of the most destructive forces in the lives of people.  Sometimes the pain can rewire the brain in harmful ways that can take decades to heal.  Those years also exposed me to people who were passionate about walking through that journey with the kids we were serving.  Finding healing is something that only takes place when a person “feels” safe.  Those “safe places” are usually where we find ourselves connected to people who care and people willing to stand by us when life is hard.  This is what true “community” is.  Trauma, situations and life’s hardships can often strip away community from a person, but we have to find ways to rebuild community if we want to see meaningful healing take place.  Please continue to follow along with my blogs to hear stories about people being reconnected with ‘community’ in Europe as they find healing and restoration for themselves and their families.

What’s happening right now:  After about 12 years in the Social Work field, I felt a change was about to take place.  One thing led to another and now I find myself as a Missionary Associate appointed to Convoy of Hope in Europe.  It’s been kinda the same, but different!  I’ve been able to spend many months this past year in Europe where I serve as the Feeding Initiatives Program Manager for our team.  I’m currently back in the US itinerating to raise the rest of my budget and raise awareness about what Convoy of Hope is doing in Europe.    If you have read this far, then welcome to the “Fergus in Spain” team!  I’m glad you are here and that you are part of my community!   My life is rich because of the family and friends that I have in my life.  Thank you for your support.  Your support enables me to be part of a team supporting community restoration across Europe where the need is greatest!
